I am a member of Justin’s church and was fortunate enough to attend an event with him and James Hetfield, at our church, where we had the opportunity to view this film. I also purchased it. As a woman who was abandoned by her father at the age of six, (NO visits, NO calls, NO cards, NO letters, NO child support) I still bear this wound, 56 years later. (Do the math!). This is REAL. This is DEVASTATING. This is a SCOURGE on our nation that cannot be ignored, with a domino effect that impacts all of us! Praise God I was raised in Him, and found a Christian husband who has stood by me as I worked through these issues, and loves me in spite of them. I highly recommend this film for anyone who has suffered this loss. It will validate your feelings and help you find a way to share them and encourage others. Thank You, Justin Hunt!

Justin Hunt’s film, Absent, will change your life. I understood the impact a father could have on his family, but Absent rocked my world on the implications of living an absent life. Now I need to tell all of my friends about this incredible film. Thank you Justin for tackling the tough questions the world needs to wake up to.
    Please, watch this film.

This film is simply stunning. As someone who’s father walked out when when my mum was 8 months pregnant with me after seeing my brother and sister grow up, this film hits home on soo many levels. This film makes you understand that you aren’t the only person who is going through this and it comforts you in so many ways. It comforts you in they way that people have changed their lives and makes this horrible wound into something amazing that continues to encourage and motivate people to make their lives better. I thank Justin for making this film and I thank him for getting james involved because I now look at his lyrics in a completely different way and view, and I feel blessed that he and everyone in the film was able to share their experiences with the world.

An insightful, thought-provoking film about the impact of absent fathers (who are either physically gone from their child’s lives or are emotionally not there due to neglect and other invalidating behaviors), with interviews from adult victims who share their feelings of hurt, resentment, and sadness. This film makes it clear that being an absent father affects a child well into adulthood but also has a demonstrably adverse impact on the community. Being a supportive, present father means more than providing for a child’s financial and physical needs; it has a strong emotional component as well. Being raised without an emotionally involved positive father figure affects males as well as females and leaves a father wound in the form of a void in the human heart. This documentary challenges men, future fathers, and women choosing a partner to realize how much a father does influence a child’s development and has the power to build or destroy a child’s self esteem based on everyday choices. I love this film because of the real-life stories it includes by people such as Metallica frontman James Hetfield and others who were impacted by an absent father. Highly recommended!

    :

An excellent and thought provoking film that examines the impact of a father’s involvement on his children and the larger culture. After one horrifying story after another of how an absentee father negatively impacted the main players in the film, the movie takes a sudden uplifting turn and leaves the viewer with hope for changing the trajectory of the culture.

For the past 16 years, I have worked both in men’s health and with at risk youth. I can tell you without a doubt the impact of not having a father is extremely Impactful to not only these young men, but to our society as a whole. I can testify that EVERYTIME I showed this movie, in colleges, detention centers, jails, schools, substance abuse facilities, the reaction was Always the same. They realized the issue and walked away from my class with a different point of view. THANK YOU Justin…for changing lives for the better!!!

Someone bought this film for me because I’m a Metallica fan and James appears on it. I hadn’t heard about the film until that moment and back then I didn’t know the impact it was gonna have on me. I must admit I already knew James’ story, I was moved by it as always, but I didn’t discover anything new about him.
It was the rest of the stories, most of them from anonimous, non-famous people, the ones that moved me the most and brought tears to my eyes and made me feel I’m not alone. Both my parents have always been there (physically), but absent; specially my father. This film confirms that having an absent father creates a wound that never heals, a hole you can never fill. This is not like any other wound or trauma a person may experience, but a scar that will keep opening and bleeding for the rest of your life and that will lead people to very dark places just to try to look for some comfort they will never get.
It all comes down to self-awareness and education. We all should raise our children with love so they grow up to know what love is and what it’s like to be loved; that’s the only way they will ever be able to love others.
‘Absent’ is a film that will definetely help spread the word and hopefully make this society more conscious about the real struggles and serious consequences the sons and daughters of absent fathers are suffering everyday. Everyone should watch it!
